    Hello to all,

I was just reading through this echo and am happy to see that
DOS cracking is still a thing. Just to let the community know, Danger
Bay BBS is the Official BBS Door Gamez & Appz Museum. We are dedicated
to preserving the DOS BBS world. It runs on a heavily modded PCBoard.
We have over 1000 door gamez & appz installed (w/ much more to come),
    most are registered.

I once ran an 8 line warez distro board in the 90's and have kept all
the old warez on backup. You can find alot of hard to get DOS reversing
appz on the board. Currently i have over 8000 cracks/patches/keygens
online, Offline i have over 1 million. So if you are looking for a crack/patch/keygen that you can't find on the board, just drop me a msg
and i can search my offline archive for you. If there is anything i can
do to support the BBS comunnity, i am happy to do it.

    Cheers & Happy Hacking!

I plan to install every door ever made that will run on PCBoard. I have
920 Gamez and 110 appz running now with lots more to go. I want to
preserve these games and showcase how they run. Most of these games are
not running on ANY BBS anymore. It also showcases the authors and thier
hard work to make all this happen, who are mostly unknown and forgotten
in the current BBS scene. I have painstakingly contacted many door
author to find source code and/or keygens. Sadly, most source code has
    been lost to antiquity.

I have also programmed a Door Database that details all the working
aspects of each door. It is a searchable database which makes it handy
for finding that door you are looking for. The database is not complete
yet, but it is online and seems to be running fine. Most of the intro
screens, user manuals and some file_id.diz i created for the database to
make it more viewer friendly. Check it our sometime.

Ahh yeah, I've seen you post about your door database before. That does sound pretty cool. I'll call up and take a look soon. It'll be an interesting test
to see if you have an entry on my favorite obscure door game no one has ever heard of. In fact, you couldn't even find it on any of the BBS file sites
until I tracked it down from a local SysOp who used to ran it and spread it around. :P

It's simply called "Cyberspace". It was originally a WWIV door, I believe, though the board I used to play it on ran VBBS. Anyway, it's basic a BBS implementation of a social/creative MUD where your users can create their own rooms and items and just basically build a giant world. Some cool features, like the ability to upload text and ANSI (with moderation!) execute other
doors from within the world, etc. It was an amazingly effective time sink
back in the dial-up days. :)

Latest version I've found (and indeed the one that is spread around
everywhere) is v1.12. I think one of the reasons that it's largely MIA is that it was only ever distributed as an EXE installer until I rediscovered it and started spreading it around in 1997. Interestingly, according to the documentation, registration got you the source code, so someone SOMEWHERE probably has it. Hmph. I've toyed with the idea of coding a similar door myself...

WOW, that is one monster of a games. The user manual is huge. I never
seen a game with this many user commands. The only other game that comes
to mind is Ultimate Universe. I installed it and ran INIT.EXE. It runs,
but when i get to the message "Do you want to change the automessage?" I crashes with a "Runtime error 201 at 0910:05FC". Pascal error 201 is a
"range check error". Not sure what that may mean. I'm wondering if my
chain.txt file is correct. I used Doormaster to convert and it created a
30 line chin.txt file. I noticed there are no subdirs either.

    Did you get this running?

I can see why you'd get that from my description if you've never played any of those sorts of MU* games... but nope! It's more like an old school text adventure game but one that allows users to make your their own content,
and since it's multiuser and persistent, other people can interact with it,
add on to it, and collaboratively make a whole (almost certainly disjointed) world.

Clearly a relic from before we realized that a significant portion of people can't be trusted with making their own content because they'll fill it with trolly bullshit and/or take every opportunity to screw up other people's work... but hey, I'm an idealist! ;)
