How does it 'not support linux'?? Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm
??? But first, lets get you beyond that 'can't install linux' problem....

OK, so I made another attempt with debian just now, I did some reading and people seemed to suggest uefi setup for the nuc.

At boot from install usb, this is what I got first

4.303983] mmc0: Unknown controller version (5). You may experience problems. 5.849666] sd 3:0:0:0: [sda] no caching mode page found
5.849733] sd 3:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through
87.627628] thunderbolt 0000:03:00.0: failed to send driver ready to ICM 93.577882] iTCO_wdt: cant request region for resource [mem 0x00c5fffc-0x.... 95.951158] Bluetooth: hci0: command 0xfc05 tx timeout
95.951174] Bluetooth: hci0: Reading intel version information failed (-110)

Ok then debian graphical install performed normally (except for nic but I
know how to fix that.. I partitioned drive uefi scheme and the install completed presumably normal.

At first boot all looks normal, until the first debian GUI appears then it
goes back to command prompt login. lets me login and look around just no gui.

    Type X and get;

( a bunch of server information and build the following fatal error)
    Fatal server error:
(EE) Cannot run in framebuffer mode. Please specify busIDs for all framebuffers

server terminated with error (1). Closing log file

More info? You did ask for it...<VBG>

    Haha fair enough :)

You're going to have to figure out what type of GPU you have, and you're
going to have to make xorg play nice with your GPU. I think google is your friend here; I don't say that to be flippant but you're going to have to
figure out some slightly customized configuration to make this work, and working through it yourself will help with the understanding of how and why
you have to make some config changes.

As a start, use lspci to figure out the precise GPU you're using, and we can
go from there. Something like lspci | grep 3D, or lspci | grep VGA will help with this.

Maybe try a different distro. Can't Hurt. I would totally go with Kubuntu, although I have no idea if that will help. I know Ubuntu bakes a lot of things into the kernal, it may have the drivers you need cooked in.
