• Email Verification

    Greets!

I'm adding and testing the email verification features.

How do you pass the upgraded security level after email validation when
using the Matrix-Login (XV). I've tried adding it to the data field as s## but this is mangling the user record and setting the security level to
'0'. On the bright side, the email address is being validated.

Can the 'email mail verification' email verbiage be customized?

Is there a Display Code that shows wether or not a users email address is Verified?

I read the docs pertaining to the OV acs function... this'll do it!

If you are trying to auto upgrade after e-mail validation (the -V command) then you put the security level in the data field. If you put "s20" then it will mean 0 because "s20" is not a number and would resolve to 0 when converted to an integer. If you put "20" instead of "s20" it should work.

I'll put a check in there in the next build though that looks to see if someone puts an "s" in there first and if so it will ignore it (meaning both 20 or s20 would work). I don't think you're the first one to do that.

Sorry to butt in; I was trying to setup email support in my Mystic, but it keeps failing to send emails. I think I have the hosts correctly and all - the service I am using needs the domain to have been there 3 months first; mine has been for ... almost a year, but the service still SAYS its not ready yet. Maybe they mean 3 months of an account with THEM.

Maybe I should just use gmail like the Mystic docs said.

Did you follow any guides to get this setup? I'm still stuck on getting Mystic and the servers talking... I really want email validation on my BBS.

The Gmail setup is perfect for it, one side note, Gmail now has a issue where you can not use 3rd party apps to access Gmail, if you google gmail 3rd party apps there is a setting in Gmail which will allow it. I didn't realize there was an issue on my board until I tested it recently and fixed it up. Now it works again...

Sorry... Can speak too much into 3rd party email services. I'm using my on email server hosted from a LINUX VPS. What service were you trying to use?

I didn't follow the docs for setup but now you have me curious!

I'm still playing with these new features and glad g00r00 is looking over
our shoulders in this echo... He'll be needed in the coming days :)

I can't say what your e-mail service is doing but have you set your domain in Mystic's configuration? When Mystic connects to send e-mail it has to identify itself and it will use that setting.

    I have it set to 20forbeers.com, if thats what you mean... however I'm using... oh god I gotta check;

    smtp2go.com

Part of the problem is I don't understand the technology BEHIND all this, I kinda just cobble together the old and new and... if I UNDERSTOOD what was going on it'd be easier for me.

Like, why would smtp2go.com need 20forbeers.com if... how are they connected - I guess because thats were the info is coming from. As you can tell, I just don't grasp it so don't stress over explaing much to me! It is set, however...

The ONE thing I can think of is smtp2go requires that your domain has been around for more than 3 months. Mine HAS been around for 7, but it DID still warn me of that during the setup - so maybe the dates are a little overlapped and THATS why smtp2go isn't accepting..?

Mystic just returns that it couldn't send out. And in mis server it tries again when I reload but... never goes thru.

Another user mentioned gmail; and what do I care, I could TRY using gmail and see if that works out for me.

Yes, the domain setting in Servers > General Setting needs to be your 20forbeers.com if that is your BBS domain.

Also you should be able to find a log of the communication with your SMTP server in the node log and if there is an error there should be an entry in the error log too. That should allow us to see why its not working. But like you said it could be because your domain is new I don't really know.
