• Echomail Rescan Options

From KnightMare@77:1/139 to All on Tue Dec 1 16:29:52 2020
    Greets...

Other than Areafix, are there any other options for performing an
    echomail rescan.

To add more context, I use OpenXP point software to connect to my Mystic BBS for mail. Since upgrading to a46, areafix/filefix between OpenXP and Mystic is broken. Mystic will not process requests correctly.

To get around this, I can use the Mystic Configuration tool to set echomail exports for points but I can't rescan the message bases.

    Is there another option?

What is broken about it? Do you see the netmail message in Mystic from your point? Can you post the kludges for us. Anything is Mystic's logs as to why it's not processing the request?

I will let others jump in here, maybe g00r00. I use Husky to process mail because I have about 100 downlinks across 2 or 3 networks.

That actually looks like it might be a Unicode issue.

Can you generate an areafix message from your point node and trap it before Mystic processes it. I would like to take a peek at the packet.

You can rename the extension to something like .zip and drop it in my inbound.

In A46 timeframe the PKT processing was changed so its probably an issue with a memory leak in a string parsing function or something within the AreaFix processor. But I can't fix but I don't know about, so hopefully I can get a PKT to test with!

(That sort of size *should* create no issue for Mystic's stuff. When I was adding in the stat tracking to the mailer I had Avon send me his echo nodes and he had about 130 nodes on a single Mystic hub at that time. He once sent me a screencap of the FSX hub that had about 30 or so BINKP connections going at once in MIS which was pretty cool to see).

You are correct but I need some sort of scripting. With Husky's perl hooks I can do a whole bunch of voodoo to mail like remap it, strip out any ANSI
(for gating SciNet to our INN peered Usenet server) and create auto
    responders based on certain keywords.

I need to track netmail and use the nodelist to process where it as I goes based on hub and CM flags that are found in the nodelist.

I'm also a top tier filegate hub and need to give some of my downlinks the ability to hatch stuff in certain fileechos and give new nodes the ability
    to rescan files.

If you can add that to Mystic then I'm your man, lol.

any ANSI(for gating SciNet to our INN peered Usenet server) and create autoresponders based on certain keywords.

I am curious where it hooks in? Or at least where you specifically use it? If I ever did something like that it would be with Mystic Script not Perl so that I could natively support it in the code without requiring something like Perl and a bunch of .DLL
    files etc.

I need to track netmail and use the nodelist to process where it as I goesbased on hub and CM flags that are found in the nodelist.

I couldn't quite understand that but I would like to hear more!

I'm also a top tier filegate hub and need to give some of my downlinks theability to hatch stuff in certain fileechos and give new nodes the abilityto rescan files.

You can do the hatching and you can have passthrough hatching from downlinks if you enable it. I do not allow RESCAN for file bases though, because someone will Filefix:

    %ALL
    %RESCAN

And Mystic would queue up 1 gig of files for that node. How do you prevent that from happening or what do you in that case? If I were to set limits for the amount of files or size, then the RESCAN doesn't work anyway so whats the point?

Do you just allow a rescan of everything in that case?

If you can add that to Mystic then I'm your man, lol.

All good I wasn't suggesting you use it, I was just commenting that the volume/size of the setup wouldn't be an issue. Mystic has been pushed harder than that.

Husky is great if you are okay fighting through the configuration and there is no doubt it can do more than Mystic's tosser.

Mystic's stuff is solid for 99% of people's use cases though, and its easier to work with. Being able to use any combination of Mystic's mailer or tosser with any other mailer or tosser is the beauty of BSO and JAM though!

The reason I ask is because if I ever did a Mystic 2 with SQL or non-JAM then SysOps would be forced to use Mystic tosser. Some of the super power-user stuff that only like 1-2 people might ever need (ie you) would need to be incorporated. The idea of allowing some hooks for scripting would be pretty cool.

No problem... glad I could help. Not sure how many people are using OpenXP these days but it's still being developed and there are a few people experiencing the issue. I was nominated to chase it down so thx for
getting it fixed so quickly... I'll inform the troops :)

I have another one for you that ocurred after the a47 update. Trying to reproduce it now but unsuccessfully. I was experimneting with the defualt editor and about the same time, ALL the loose files in the 'mystic'

Yeah it wasn't a too bad of a fix, it took longer to test up the test case for that PKT than it did to fix the bug.

If you have any other issues let me know!

You can find the updated version in the prealpha folder if you are using the A47 test releases. I compiled the Windows and Linux versions about 10 minutes ago that includes the fix.
