I just finished reading the 8th book in the Expanse series called Tiamat's Wrath.

I have been a fan of the series in general. It's nice to see a new space
opera style series that can be gripping, but I have to be honest and say that it is starting to feel that they are milking the cow for everything they can get.

The book (much like book 7, Persepolis Rising) feel drawn out. It feels like they are checking the couch cushions for material to keep the series going.
It could just be me, but the first 4 or 5 books were page turners and these last few were a slog to get through.

I believe they have it planned out as a nine book series, so the next one should be the last. Feels like they're stretching things out to create this final trilogy, which so far hasn't been as interesting as what came before.

I'm not sure how many pages were in book eight but I came away from it feeling like not too much happened (except for three fairly significant things). Must have been a fair bit of filler.

I haven't gotten that far yet, I'm just about book 6 which I have thought has been okay.

After reading echicken's and your account I'm not really keeping my hopes up.

I know that their initial idea behind the series was to create a MMORPG, they sure have enough cannon to pull it off. Personally I think it would be a
great way to keep The Expanse going.

It will also be interesting to see how the latest TV season will make out now that it has moved to Amazon Prime. It should be out sometime in December.

Have you read any of the novellas that fill in a lot of the back story? I
have gotten through about 4 or 5 of them. Great filler and character development. There is a proper reading order but I found jumping around, as long as you have read at least the first 5 novels, worked as well.

I think I may have done, but I'd have to go back and check. I've read so many books in the past few years that a lot of them blend together.

That is the problem. I use WhisperSync and flip between Audible and my Kindle which means I can consume more content. With that, I tend to forget what I
have read (I really should use something like GoodReads).

The problem I run into is picking a book up getting 5 or 6 chapters deep and then saying to myself "wait, I think I know what is about the happen. Fuck, I have read this already".
