It is a fully peered Usenet server that carries every text group (sorry guys, no alt.bin groups for free).

I'm pretty sure Avon's is an FTN feed. So how does the NNTP feed work w/ Mystic? I see they have a built in service for it, does that mean users typically interact with it over the servers external nntp listener? or doesI was planning on getting this from FSXnet but Avon's been really bus so I haven't been added yet.
Were you looking for an FTN feed of Usenet or an NNTP feed?

Mystic has a built in NNTP server but it is for users to use as a reader for existing message areas. What you need is some sort of gate software that would grab the newsgroups via NNTP and post them to your message bases. AFAIK, Synchronet is the only BBS software that has that ability built in.
Although I currently don't offer Usenet via FTN, I could set it up if Avon doesn't get back to you.

So were you offering to bridge newsgroups to Scinet FTN echos, or
offering other boards an NNTP feed? Sorry, I think I misunderstood the original message.

I would be...especially for Sci-Fi/fantasy shows...OS/2...BBS Software.

There aren't any "bin" groups as the bandwidth alone would kill me.
Its not just the bandwidth that kills; its the conversion of all the embedded attachments to Fidonet PKT format; which was never designed for that level of trickery. Every single attempt I tried at offering binary groups failed directly at the packet-conversion level. Not to mention it chokes ANY tosser.

Dallas Vinson runs SFnet, which is dedicated to Sci-Fi and fantasy.
Small network currently with little traffic, but I try to post there
when I can.
I want anything from the "bin" groups...will fire up the VPN & get them the same way I got 4000+ movies over the years. ;)
Love some little known shows & would love to find people to talk about them as well...along with Doctor Who & such.

Many moons ago, when I ran bbs-scene.org I ran a multi peered news
server and offered up a nzb tracker seeing as I had a place on the backbone. I miss those days.
I've read the reviews of GigaNews...but didn't know someone who had been using them.
Have seen some of the caps they have. If you don't want/care for the "bins"...I take it that it's hard to hit your cap just doing the text route?
Remember when I started using the Net...part of the cost was for a UseNet feed. Discovered the "bin" stuff with nice pix of ladies & I was in
heaven when I learned to use a news reader. ;)
Now...been celibate for many years...so don't even remember what a naked woman looks like. Am about ready to get my braille subscription to Playboy. ;)
Oh I care about the bin with them, its my main source of media. I have been with them for so long i'm still on a grandfathered unlimited plan
for $18/month.
For the most part, anatomically, they still look the same. A little
bigger here, a little saggier there, but all in all, naked women
generally look the same.
Remember what Ron White used to say about this. Woman asked if he wanted to see her chest...so he said yes. She unrolled them for a bit & rolled them back up.

Not sure to be repulsed or to stare in amazement...but have seen several women walk into the store without a bra and Tater Salad is the one I
start thinking of.
