You are correct. Having people like you, DM and g00r00 still developing BBS software all these years later is awesome. There is even movement in alt os packages like C-Net for the Amiga and Image BBS for the c64.

I myself would love to see someone with apam's skill set take on Renegade!
It was the 2nd and most loved BBS software I used back in the day. Oh the the good times of 22 to 40 calls a day with a great software of it's times.

I do miss the call volume. Those days were great.

I still run Renegade here in its original configuration since I started, with only minor changes made to fix bugs and keep up with the times.

The direction the last developer took with Renegade was admirable but focused more on copying lightbars from Searchlight instead of fixing long-time bugs. The biggest change that I refused to implement was changing from text-based menu settings to a database driven model. That made all 3rd-party mods and utilities incompatible. It was such an unnecessary change to code that had worked for many years and introduced a whole new set of problems.

So I obtained the code for the Y2k version and implemented my own fixes.

I had three lines averaging around a hundred or so calls per day.

My favourite times were watching the loyal callers totally slam my system around midnight, just calling to see when the door games would "turn around" after midnight especially those that played LORD. They just could not wait
to burn through all their turns once midnight arrived.

I was part of a C64 cracking group back in the day and you couldn't get on my system if you tried. It was just user after user downloading lnx compressed disk images, weeks would go by without people so much as posting a message, lol.
