I dunno about that. I have been smoking weed for a long time
(although I have recently switched to capsules to avoid the
smoke in my lungs). I tend to be a lot more productive when
feel the effects of THC, especially creatively. I couldn't
focus in school unless I was high. My Dr. says it's probably
because I had ADD and it went undiagnosed.

The formal drugs - that the people I know diagnosed with ADD
that took those - practically turned them into zombies - the
opposite of being focused.

My son was diagnosed with it. The drugs today are a lot different than back then. There are plenty of drugs that aren't stimulants. He has been on them for about 4 years and his focus and academic marks have shot through the roof. When he was in grade 5 he was at a grade 3 reading level. Today, he gets steady 92-95% in pretty much every high school subject including applied math.
