We support binkp DNS resolution on SciNet so if you add a domain alias for SCiNet and assign it scinet-ftn.org then the convention of fF.nN.zZ.scinet-ftn.org. So I'm 77:1/100 and my dns address is f100.n1.z77.scinet-ftn.org. If you ping that it will resolve to bbs.diskshop.ca. Your address will be active this coming Friday when the new nodelist is published.

Did you get it sorted out? We have a few of us here who are quite
proficient with binkd if you need a hand.

Remember that you need to identify SciNet as a domain. If you are a
member or Fidonet and if that is your primary address then you need to
keep you main zone number in the domain statement. For example, if you
are in Zone 1 then it should looks something like this:

    domain scinet /path/to/outbound 1

You can also add a fqdn alias to use the scinet-ftn.org domain as such:

    domain scinet-ftn.org alias-for scinet

Yes it seems to be working now. I forgot to add scinet to the list of domains, now it is connecting to the right address instead of trying to convert it to a fidonet address.

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to SciNet so thought I would post a short intro --

My name is Bj”rn Wiberg (aka "Zip") and I'm currently trying to recreate my old BBS from the mid-90s with the help of Mystic and a couple of FTNs (fsxNet, FidoNet, DOVE-Net, Micronet and now SciNet). I used to run FD+RA+GEcho under DOS, DesqView, Win 3.x, OS/2 and NT4, but have since switched to Mystic on Linux.

I enjoy the FTNs a lot, and am learning new Mystic things almost every day it feels like. =)

Huge thanks to Netsurge (Frank) for adding me so quickly, and looking forward to writing more to you all!

Both g00r00 and Digital Man have done amazing things for the bbs community.
I have used both of their products over the past 15 years or so. The fact
that they still actively support and develop in 2020 is an amazing feat that
I, and I'm sure others appreciate.

It's also great to see other packages being worked on. apam's various

Definitely agree with you on all 4 of those softwares. :P I do particularly like Enigma.5 right now, as a 'lust' software that I don't have time to learn but wish I did.

I also like the WWiV guys, if nothing else they have a solid group of people trying to develop it further ATM. It seems like they are about to go down the route of adding features that you find in Mystic, but at some point you have to add the good- no matter where it came from. I dig it.

I also think x84 was a cool project... I wish the devs kept going. With the package, and the extras you can grab off their github, theres tons of python modules that aren't added to a stock installation. Sure, its all python and its strung together.. but if one really wanted to modify it you could build whatever you wanted. AND, the way they handle CP437/UTF8 is awesome. Just type telnet from the command prompt, and x84 systems look perfect... now thats pretty rad.

Anyway, I'm stoked that Mystic is strong and being developed. It's home.. but even if it went away tomorrow, we are sitting pretty in 2020 for BBS packages.

BBSes have been a huge support community for me, thru this pandemic. Glad that I found my way to sciNet even; I'm going to keep pressing myself to learn to contribute to the Mystic BBS community.
