Just found out that the hospital near me is asking for donations of equipment, including those 3D-printable face shield frames that have been making the rounds lately. Started printing my first one moments ago as a test, will see how many I can produce in a day (looks like they take ~40 mins a pop).

Was curious to know if you're doing anything similar, as IIRC you've got one or more 3D printers at home.

How costly are materials? I'm happy to chip in.

Dirt cheap. The piece they're asking for is basically a plastic headband, which won't use much material at all. I could probably print 75 of them for $25 CAD or so. I already have lots of filament long-since paid for, including a "free" spool that came with my printer, still unopened.

So, the money's no problem. It's just a matter of the time required to produce them (for me, about 37 minutes apiece). The more people churning them out, the better.

They supply the plastic sheets that comprise the actual shield, and the elastics (to hold them onto someone's head).

I started printing them last night as I finally unpacked my printers and my filament.

Which ones have you been printing? I've been doing these: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/27267

A roll of filament is roughly $30 Canadian. I just ordered 6 spools but I
think they will take a while to get here.

Glad to hear you're on board as well. Feels good to do something tangible, even if it isn't much.

Michael Garron Hospital in East York is asking for these ones in particular:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/2a9ufeyzy74qqot/Michael-Garron-COVID-19-Visor-v17.zip

You can view the STL here, may take a minute to load:

    https://bbs.electronicchicken.com/?page=More/008-viewstl.xjs

They want this particular one, in PLA, because they've already tested it in the hospital and it is known to survive their sanitization procedures (which I assume don't involve much/any heat).

If you haven't checked with whatever hospital you're donating to, might be good to ensure that they want the particular model & material you're producing.

I donated a few boxes of gloves I had here to Etobicoke General by my house.
I asked their PPE drive people and they were happy with the ones that were up on the Prusa site.

When I drop these off I will check with them on stock levels and maybe switch my efforts over to East York.

I feel it's our duty as Canadians to do whatever we can help to help each other.

If you end up printing any of their preferred face shields, here's how I'm doing three at a time:

Cuts down on the prep / cleanup work if I don't need to run to the printer as often. YMMV depending on bed size, etc.

We have been printing and delivering to hospitals here in Washington.

Started with the swedish 6 knob NA design, but later we have swapped to a new design. To date we have delivered some 1500 face shields to doctors, and hopefully soon manufacturing is going to step in.
