One last test (famous last words).

I am trying to remove the need to use a netmail tracker for checking things like netmail looping and bad destinations. At the same time replicating rntrack's ping and automated echomail response robot.

So far everything will work using HPT's perl hooks.

It is. You must be running some old ass tosser as I have to enable a compatibility option in HPT just to be able to process your mail. The docs
    for the option read....

Ignoring Capability Word in pkt files. If some pkt moved to bad. This may
help, but not recommended. It is better to change old software.

LMAO. Never-the-less it made it through and that is all that counts.

LOL, well yes it is some old ass software since it's 20+ years old now. It
can drink, vote and buy smokes, couple more years and it'll rent a car and
    have some kids.

I switched up the packet config and maybe that was my issue. We'll see if

Yeah I'm doing it all "real" old school. Pure DOS/QEMM/Desqview on QuickBBS
on a Celeron 366 wit 96Mb of RAM and man it has been a struggle at times! I'm sure I could have it all done in a couple hours if I used the modern

Yeah I've really had to dig into things to solve some of my problems. Reverse engineering for keys, etc and now I've got to write a half-decent mail reader door since QBBS is pretty shit for reading mail compared to Mystic. My weapon of choice is C generally but I'm no stranger to pascal.

Semi-related, I always used a MacBook Pro for work stuff but thanks to the advent of WSL, I now use Windows as my main dev environment with Ubuntu in
WSL (and VS Code bouncing back and forth between them). Pretty nifty setup.
But I work a lot with my laptop in my lap, and I only now realize how hot

Making it as good as the original would be a difficult task. If they start with a new cast, I would hope it would be more of a sequel than a reboot.

Introduced an old friend of mine from some YT videos from "The Speech". At
the same time...saw an article reference from Variety from two years ago that this was going to happen. Nothing recently...so with everything
    happening...may be a no go.

On the other hand...I would love to find the US pilot they have shot for NBC...but all I can find is that it's unavailable & don't believe it was ever aired.

There really wasn't an OS, the system booted to BASIC.

Anything good required booting from a floppy.

I'm too lazy to search for news articles from sources acceptable to all, thats just to much work for me, so I just stay out of it and pop the popcorn and enjoy the show when they occur these days.

I had a C64 in the 80s, but I didn't enjoy it much. I read a manual that showed me how to bounce a ball accross the screen or something, but I don'tremember using the OS at all. Isn't everything just booted from a floppy?

A C64 mini is a replica with internal games pre-installed. BUT, there are tons of games online in, well, various places including BBS's that you can load onto a USB and plug into the Mini and play. It also has HDMI out with some sort of 1080 up scaling occurring.

You missed out if you didn't learn to BBS on a C64. Those were my best days as a SysOp. I had so many games from "exchange parties" it was unreal. My C64 had two SFD drives with a SCSI adapter (and a frickin house fan to keep it cool ..) and a 300 baud modem, which I *think* I was able to upgrade to 1200, but that may have started at the XT for me, not so sure. Graphics were pretty good for it's time period, and really rad arcade games came out.

I'm looking forward to checking it out .. why not for $38.00 .. you can also add a keyboard to it and program in basic from what the specs say.

Loading games back then, if my memory is correct was something like load "nameofgame",8,1 and you were in heaven.

The SFD drives I believe were double sided so more games could fit on them. I had quite a few upgrades over the years I owned it. But eventually transitioned to a Commodore HD40, 8088 XT with a 40gb hd, and 640kb of ram. Ended my BBS years with a Pionex Pentium something with who knows how much memory or harddrive space. I worked in CE at that time so I was constantly upgrading it. That was about the time I had two phone lines and more users then could call in.

But back to the C64 days, man .. those were the years of the war dialers, hacking tools to remove copywrite code that when removed allowed copying of games, etc... It was also the days of easily being able to hack into ummm .... places ... and as a 13 -17 year old, doing nothing productive to society. Much more advanced (beyond my skillset or desire today) but it was a fun period in my bank of memory :)

There really wasn't an OS, the system booted to BASIC.

So you boot it up, and then you can hack away at a basic file? Does it have a built-in debugger/compiler?

You missed out if you didn't learn to BBS on a C64. Those were my best

I can barely remember that thing. I've never seen a 300 baud modem in action, but that sounds funny to me because I started with a speedy 2400 with PCs.

Did you guys talk in a message area or anything? Were they Fido networked? Or was this before Fido?

No, but there were cartridges you could get that would debug. Today, there are replacement Kernal ROM images you could use that would give you a built in decompiler and debugger.

No BBS software on the 64 supported FTN networks. Some of them would network with the same software but it was just a basic exchange of messages.

Mostly people logged in to leave message and the majority of them logged in to download pirated software.

Nah, BASIC is traditionally an interpreted language, with compilers often
being optional add-ons. That's one of the main reasons it has the reputation
    of being so slow.

So I wasn't on boards until my Tandy "PC" and after that, DOS systems... well I suppose the Tandy was DOS but.. it had its own compatibility issues... anyway, those late 80s/early 90s where my FAVORITE times of BBSes - before the FTNs, or at least on systems that weren't networked... I loved all the different boards and how we'd call in for messaging to each one. Each had its own different 'feel' and sysOp. :P

Those were the days... sadly, I was never on any 40-column Apple, Amiga, C64, Atari or other more retro systems. Just IBM/PC and up.

Still tho - those Telegard, WWIV and other amateur BBSes - the tops!!

It defiantly created a larger user base for bbses. Most systems had one phone line, if you called and it was busy, move on to the next.

No networks, 100% local. That was so long ago. You'd call every BBS and post your number and then hope people called. They would, frequently. But there were as many users in a single state as there are sysops and users world wide these days.

    I'm still here! :)

Spent parts of the day configuring ifcico to work correctly with my modem for dial-out FTN mail delivery as a backup method. :-D

Then realizing that it's not always very reliable in reading nodelist flags, sometimes causing it to perform dial-out instead of connecting (IFC/ITN/IVM) over the Internet -- I checked the source code some time ago and dial-out should only be performed when there are no (Internet) alternatives... Meaning almost never. :-D

Either way, it's a blast from the past. :)

    Best regards
