BBS names with the word "Realm" and "Slayer" in them were popular in my hood. Lots of death metal themes.

Oh, and remember a couple "tech" ones... I seem to remember an "EC Tech" being popular in the 909. "Eee-See" or "Eck-Teck" was a big topic of discussion in terms of pronunciation.

The Oasis - there was a "The Oasis BBS" in Johnson City, NY in the 90s, and now there's a The Oasis BBS via telnet.

It's also a common name for smoke shops - there's one in Johnson City NY & one in Albuquerque NM.

Most of the people I knew and cared for were BBSers (or friends of BBSers) throughout highschool and college. My wife and I met on the MajorBBS system I worked for back in 1994. I posted a message on one of the boards, she responded out of the blue, next thing I discovered is that she lived 2.2 miles away (that's 3.5 kilometers for you metric people). We are still together to this day. (It is difficult to explain to people who started on computers during the Internet age what a BBS is/was.)

Our teleconference groups (chat groups, similar to IRC) had upwards of 50 to 100 people in at any given time. Games would be filled. Hey, I was 16 through 19 making $20/hour working 40 to 60 hour weeks.

Thank you. I might not be married for much longer. Wife just asked me if I wanted to go to IKEA with her and the daughters via text. I responded, "I'd rather slit my throat, reach in, hold the artery, use my other hand to call 911, and while gagging on my own blood, explain to them why."

Thats pretty cool. Also cool that a MajorBBS system had employees?
There hadto be a pretty small percentage of BBS systems that actually
    made enough cashto have employees.

I mean.. the for profit boards in my area, Toledo Ohio, did pretty good there for the better part of a decade. The ones that switched to ISPs at the end did even better.

territory. Thursday, I think, someone posted in the FIDO 10th Ammendment
echo claiming to be "the poo poo man."

Those bastards! I hope this shitty stuff doesn't smear my good reputation!

LOL, so far you are safely unsmeared. :)

I will, but what's the 10th Amendment echo all about?

It is supposed to be about the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution but,
aside from off-topic and test posts, has been dead for quite some time.

Might be but I have not yet figured it out.

Me, too! Of course, there are a whole lot of their songs that you could
here me refer to as "one of my favorite" songs of theirs. They were just
    that good. :)
