Has any sysop ever got a DOS text game to work on their BBS via doorway?

I saw somewhere, on some BBS, a section in the doors that said "Old DOS
Games." I can't remember which BBS it was, but if anyone has any tips on
how that is done, please let me know!

    I haven't seen this before...but now I'm curious :) I've opened a tab in my
web browser and may or may not get to messing around with it lol. But I'm interested to test this out.

I do run zork (and zork-like) games natively though, have you seen those? No need to emulate dos, you can run those natively in linux using frotz.

"Castle.exe" and Kingdom of Kroz come to mind.

I got it to run, but it only displays on the sysop side. I'm not sure if there's more than just ascii text at play, or what.

After I posted that message, I remembered where I saw the "Old DOS games" section: It's on Doorparty.

I always thought it would be cool to run Dopewars as a door. No dropfile needed; it's all about the high scores list, just like arcade games.

I've never seen zork and never used frotz. I read about it a little, but I don't know anything about the Z-Machine or anything. It sounds like it's something that predates DOS?

I was happy to discover that dosbox will run dopewars.exe though. So if
doorway would do it's thing, then I'd have a really cool door game to offer.

I'll check with Maskreet and/or eChicken to see how he's running these other old DOS games on his gameserver. If he gets back to me on it, I'll post
    details back on this thread.

I think if you use doorway it may do something dropfile related but reserve
the right to be wrong (or change my mind at any time :P ).

It might be cool to try it in dosemu (vs dosbox) - the former is, for me, a much better choice than dosbox for running dos software on my bbs.

Yeah, dunno *shrug* but the text adventure games are a lot of fun if you have some time to kill.

There are a few of them like "Zork" under that Category on Doorparty.

You are correct, dosemu is much better than dosbox for actual bbs doors as dosbox doesn't do file sharing. For a standalone program, like shitty wants
to do, since there is no multinode use here, dosbox would be just fine. I
also don't know of any shim for dosemu like apam's shim for dosbox that
would allow you to run console software as a door.

I know this is an old thread but i just re-joined scinet so I'm late to the question. That said, I've had nethack running for a long time w/ no issue.
The game is cool as it will ask the user what the toon name is before they enter so as long as someone dosen't guess it the nethack player will be safe.

I'm running a winOS/sync/multiple concurrent users is on and the game is the dos version of NetHack - Mazes of Menace. Have never had an issue.
