I have screens my intentions are to have lights coming on and off depending on >the function. Off/on, things like that. is this the purpose of background and >foreground?
You could use it for that, I guess. Foreground would be the main focus of the screen, while background would be the color of the "canvas" that you
are "painting" the ansi on. I wish I had a good example, but most of my screens have a black background.
I guess a good example would be if you want to create a menu that is green (background) with white letters on it (foreground). In that case, the background would be what you are typing the foreground characters onto.
I am not sure that background matters as much if you are trying to create a picture, though. Like, if you wanted a green dragon with an orange or red sky in the background, you might wind up using foreground characters to create the whole thing on a black background.
