• Crazy software idea

    Folks

Before I put alot of research into this idea, I'd like to bounce it off a few knowledgeable heads in here. Bear with me.

At home I host all my major tools such as my email server, media streamer, cloud server, my brother's servers, etc. The cloud server allows composition of basic documents from the web interface. Installing a copy of libreoffice in a headless configuration expands the feature to a cloud version.

I began contemplating this concept but on a bbs. The server would have libreoffice installed in a headless configuration, and a front end interface (UI) could be written (initially with very few features) to allow a bbs user to compose modern documents within the bbs.

I was thinking about what it would take to make this happen. Would this be feasible or possible? This concept isn't designed for any purpose other than to add a strong feature to a bbs and the added perk of being fun to do. Secondly, those bbs'ing on a retro platform such as a C64 could, theoretically, create modern documents.

One of the challenges I've considered, so far, is creating a rich text field within a bbs environment and displaying it on the user's end without latency. Displaying fonts, document markup.

This would, naturally, add a ton of processing overhead for the sysop's system.

Another thought I considered is document storage. ALlow one document at a time and keep it cached until it's saved (z modem transfer to local drive for those who have one)

My board i kicking me off for daily stuff. I"ll post a followup once it's back up.
