I didn't realize that the CAPTCHA mod by Phenom was out in the open... I added it to 2o fOr beeRS today, and just an update line 143 needs to be updated to the new hangup menucmd. It also REQUIRES you to insert "" for data, else the hangup won't work properly...

    Line 149 needs to be:
    bbs.menucmd("GI", "")

Other than that, the MPY still works great... nice little addition, IMO.

I like Stack Faults Press ESCAPE twice because it has those big ANSI countdown numbers.

I'm not sure you need both the catchpa and the Escape. Maybe one or the other. Or can it remember the IP address after you do the catchpa once, and not make you do it again?

So... Maptcha DOES normally read the IP and sets a flag for the user... if flag is present, it doesn't show maptcha to the user anymore.

However, I have it setup to display PRIOR to login so... my users have to type it every time. I curated the wordlist, so it 'fits' with my theme... which is dumb, but users will see hacky, hustley words if they return often.

I really like the maptcha thing. AND threat sentry is also awesome, altho different featureset. SF is a SOLID mod creater. Its neat that we can modify and line things up just how we like em. :P

While some of these more elaborate mods are no doubt very cool pieces of work, honestly, I require a single ESC on Distortion and I've yet to observe a script/bot that has defeated it.

Yeah, I had originally implemented it that way for that exact reason, but it occurred to me that to anyone who wasn't around networked boards back in the dial-up days it would only be an extra annoyance on top of serving no
practical purpose. Besides, you can still hit ESC twice if it makes you

Yeah, the only issue with mine is that it'll instantly disconnect you the second you hit the wrong key, which is easy to do one accident. The later version that I've got running in front of my Instinct board is a lot less obnoxious. I'll update this one to work similarly sooner or later. ;)

(...and yeah, I agree that the one you run looks cool!)

I think distortion's implementation of the 'esc' challenge is that any
/other/ keypress will result in a dropped carrier, right? This is probably pretty effective.

I have the dual esc/dual tab config with a 15 second timeout. It's probably annoying but I'm the only person that logs into my board anyway and I fear change. So it's here to stay. muahaha.

Yep. The other implementation I referred to gives the user x keypresses (I think it's 10? it's been a while since I wrote that script) before disconnecting them, so it's a bit less brutal and probably still just as effective.
