I went through a box of old equipment I had in storage and found my old IBM Thinkpad X60 from several jobs ago. It's a transitional generation, has both IBM and Lenovo logos.

It's got a 1.8 Ghz Core 2 duo, only a 32-bit CPU. 2 GB of RAM. I took out the 500 GB hybrid SATA drive I'd put into it in 2014, and replaced it with a 256GB SSD.

The battery is holding a full charge!

I did some digging around on the 'net to find a current 32-bit OS. NetBSD was intriguing, as is BunsenLabs Linux, but Linux Mint Debian edition still comes in a 32-bit edition.

The keyboard is a little cramped, but I used to type on this thing non-stop. It might take some getting used to.

It's a tiny little thing, with a mouse and a power supply it'll fit into a XS sized Timbuk2 messenger bag - my next quest.

Did I mention I'm typing on it right now? I opened a terminal program and telnetted to my BBS, and the graphics characters look pretty good...

Hmmm... the Core-2-Duo is a 64-bit processor. My board runs on a SFF
Dell with that CPU, on 64-bit Slackware.

humm. From memory Core 2 duo's are 64bit cpu's.
What model is the cpu?

Ahh - I love my old Thinkpads... this might be a good Haiku PC, if so inclined to try it out as a bare metal OS.

The X60 was a great machine; I have one in my stable, but the battery is shot and I don't do anything with it. I use my X200 more often than it, but I much prefer the old aspect ratio of the display.

All this time, I thought it was 32-bit - probably because it maxxed out
at 3 GB of RAM. I was buying T60s at the time, which had 32-bit Core Duo
T2400 processors, which might have confused me more. That certainly
widens my options!

least 2G to run it, but it works well. From what I've read, Debian 12
will still support 32 bit.

I hope they continue to. Debian still supports many diffrant cpu type's,
even thought they are not in "Mainstream" support. (Ie: M68K, etc...).

I loved those old T43s. a 32-bit Linux, SATA SSD, and max the RAM out,
and it's a usable little system. The only thing that was a bit choppy
was full-screen video. I used that for *years* as a daily driver when I
was out in coffee shops, and loved the looks you'd get from a coffee
shop full of MacBooks when you pull out a square black stickerbombed
laptop.

I could never find the holy grail, a T43 with the 2.0 Ghz processor.
Most of the ones I ran into were 1.7.
