From Al@21:4/106 to All on Mon Apr 13 13:55:54 2020
    Hello All,

g00r00 posted in MYSTIC that there is a new prealpha up at mysticbbs.com.

I only passed one message through it so far but it looks good to me.

Messages from a pkt with long lines look good in Mystic when reading and replying and outgoing .pkt's look good.

I think this prealpha is looking good but more testing is needed.

This is a big change and there may be any number of other details to be sorted yet.

    Ttyl :-),
    Al

The Yes Men are back. Early this morning, the pair of pranksters and their henchpeople hit the streets of Manhattan to hand out copies of a climate change-themed New York Post spoof with the blaring headline: “WE’RE SCREWED.” The cover story explains, “It’s official. It’s getting hot down here. And if we don’t stop burning oil and coal, the Big Apple will be cooked.”

    Cool, no more truncation.

I wonder where the GammC is coming from. Maybe it's locally on my machine.

This one looks intact. The next one was through 2/100 and was cut off.

Was the one via 2/100 in your FSX_NET msg area or the dupe base?

That happens if Mystic doesn't set the CHRS kludge for a quoted UTF-8 mail, jamnntpd reads the mail as CP437, converts it to ISO 8859-1 and the newsreader has to deal with unexpected characters. Or something like this.

If we could drop all this CHRS this, CHRS that and just go with UTF-8 this would all be some much simpler.

OK, now my messages are always UTF-8 and my jamnntpd assumes UTF-8, if no CHRS is set. I'm not sure that it works well, but let's try.

But what about older software that cannot display UTF-8 properly? Like

The charset translation configuration in some fidonet software is scary stuff ...

P.S.: If we want simplify things, how about using UTC for the date/time field? ;)

I was actually just quoting it back so you'd know it made it through.
Also, I am not running mystic, but nodes between you and I are.

You are right, that had nothing to do with Mystic. I received your quoted message with "CHRS: CP437 2" and my Newsreader displayed that weird Gamma?? stuff. I thought you saw that too, but I guess it looked fine in your reader. have no idea how charset stuff works with QWK and Multimail.
