I certainly did sound musical in nature! For me, the day the music died
was the day the electronic synthesizer took over. Nothing will ever replace that of a human playing insturments in harmony. Some things sound good with
one in play, but when a whole song is done with one it def takes the human factor out and a band no longer sounds like a true band.

... The guy who fell onto an upholstery machine was fully recovered.

Depends on what you think as metal. A bit of Steppenwolf, DIO, sprinkling of Black Sabbath... I'd even go as far as some 80's like Twisted Sister, Motley Crue... not sure there's a lot of compression or limiting going on in there.. but I'm far from an expert... I just like what I like... :)

I don't have issues with synths as long as they don't try to be anything other than a synth, personally.

It is when you have pople attempt to use synths/keyboards as a guitar that they give me the creeps :-)

It only sounds like mush if you produce it on the cheap or with lousy musicians - guess what, like everything else.

While not on the top of the Metal food chain, you can find good production values in a lot of Axel Rudi Pell's albums. His Mystica album comes to mind as one in which everyinstrument sounds crystal clear, for example. Most stuff done by Rhapsody under Magic Circle sounded awesome, epic orchestas and everything.

Look at Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica. Go for any of the symphonic female fronted stuff, it's amazing. For Within Temptation, I recommend starting with listening to the entire Unforgiving album.

I have a serious quibble with American Pie and it has to do with the
redundant and bizarre:

"Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye..."

Which is like saying "Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and bourbon..."

or

There is, apparently, a rogue theory in which he is actually singing "whiskey in Rye," as in Rye, New York, but as ever, the anarchists out there are

given that he had the gall to write lyrics like:

The error is 'module execution error' and I am using Syncterm to call a
Ratsoft BBS running on an Atari ST.

I think the problem is on the BBS itself... but I don't know.

Don't worry about it. It's a local thing. The "music history" messages
are too long and choke this ancient system.

Somehow the purge I have on that stopped working (I just forward them to
the trash). Should be working now.
