• Moving slowly

    Hey

Just want to apologize that things are moving really slowly lately and I haven't really been all that responsive. Things have been pretty
stressful here, and BBSing has just taken a back seat for me for a bit.

Thanks for all the suggestions from Michael and Jan (and others) and
thanks for picking up Magicka and having a go at it :) I do appreciate
    your input.

As for the documentation, I appreciate the offers for help with the wiki,
and I will take up whoever wants to help's offers :) At present the wiki
is running on MoinMoin, it's not as great as I had hoped, or at least I'm
not that great at it. So I'm pondering either replacing it with something
    else.

Also, as you may have noticed, I've not been real quick at adding
features as they are requested, I really need some kind of todo list.
While echomail is great for discussing things to add, it's not really
great for going over later and crossing things off, so I'm thinking the
wiki would be useful for that too.

Looking forward to getting things moving again, but I think the first
thing that needs doing is organizing the documentation, and getting it up
    to date.

    Andrew

    Apam,

Don't take my list as a list of demands and that you fulfil them by next
week :) Real life always takes priority!

Just bringing them up so you can decide what you like or don't like and
add them to a todo list at your own pace! I've not yet run into any bug
that is crippling my use of Magicka so I'm quite happy with it as is :)

I don't know what systems people use to make feature / bug requests -
perhaps that is the first thing on the list ;)

    Take care!

You're more than welcome to use the fsxNet one and create a bunch of pages there for Magicka... but only if you wish to.. offers there to use it as a resource if that helps :)

    Hello Andrew,

Just want to apologize that things are moving really slowly lately
and I haven't really been all that responsive. Things have been
pretty stressful here, and BBSing has just taken a back seat for me
    for a bit.

You don't need to apologise at all, life takes precedence. I had to take
almost 2 years off, putting all my hobbies on hold. So I do understand,
and I am sure loads of people will echo this sentiment.

As for the documentation, I appreciate the offers for help with the
wiki, and I will take up whoever wants to help's offers :) At present
the wiki is running on MoinMoin, it's not as great as I had hoped, or
at least I'm not that great at it. So I'm pondering either replacing
    it with something else.

A quick plug for MediaWiki: I have had loads of success with MediaWiki.
The markup is a bit weird, but it is part of a huge ecosystem of plugins
and other bits, so it is possible to make it do pretty much whatever you
need. If it doesn't have a certain set of functionality, it is possible
to extend it. It's written in PHP, so upgrading is relatively easy. I
have also seen things like WYSIWYG editors acting as plugins, as well as GreaseMonkey/TamperMonkey scripts doing a fine job too. It's really easy
to install and maintain, and is also not very sensitive to the version of
PHP that it's running on. All in all a good piece of kit, and if
Wikipedia is any indication it is quite scalable too. :-) I seem to
remember that you don't like PHP all that much, but MediaWiki is a breeze
    to admin because of it.

However, let's see how far we can go with the existing MoinMoin
    installation while you evaluate replacements.

Also, as you may have noticed, I've not been real quick at adding
features as they are requested, I really need some kind of todo list.
While echomail is great for discussing things to add, it's not really
great for going over later and crossing things off, so I'm thinking
the wiki would be useful for that too.

Indeed, I don't know what is on the list at all, so would like this to be
    on the WIKI.

Looking forward to getting things moving again, but I think the first
thing that needs doing is organizing the documentation, and getting
    it up to date.

Agreed. I would like to help. What would be the best way - editing the
    WIKI or contribute via markdown/GIT?

    Cheerio!

    Hi,

Last night I installed DokuWiki and it seems to be much easier to upgrade
and add users. I've not tried MediaWiki, though I understand it's quiet
good. I don't have anything against PHP actually prefer it over python -
I did have a complain about Pascal a while back maybe that's what you
    were thinking of?

I think DokuWiki will be ok, my main issue with MoinMoin was trying to
remember how to add users, and learning how to upgrade. DokuWiki looks
really easy to add users, as it's done in an administration panel rather
    than via the command line.

Indeed, I don't know what is on the list at all, so would like this
    to be on the WIKI.

Yes, hopefully using a wiki will be easier than an issue tracker, I did
have mantis set up a while back but no one used it - I also kind of
forgot about it for a while and then removed it.

Agreed. I would like to help. What would be the best way - editing
the WIKI or contribute via markdown/GIT?

I think the wiki going forward, I was planning to remove the docs from
the git distribution and just have them on the wiki when the wiki was up
to speed, it would save having to write things out twice, and easier for
    others to contribute to documentation.

I've set up the DokuWiki at https://docs.magickabbs.com/

The moinmoin wiki is at https://wiki.magickabbs.com/

If you (or anyone else) wants an account on the dokuwiki let me know via
email, I'll start moving things over from moinmoin in the coming days.

We used to use github for you... Would that work or is the wiki easier?
