• Second Network Configuration

From Mindsurfer@21:1/106 to All on Sat Aug 8 18:46:52 2020
    Hi Guys,

I am using MagickaBBS, Magimail, Binkd.

I have my first Network BBSNet configured and working. Netmails to Areafix go out and Answers from Areafix come back. Messages to Echos come in and go out. All good so far.

Now i started to add a second Network. piNET
Added a Netmail and Bad Folder and two File Folders to the BBS config and everything that i have added for the BBSNet one more time to magimail.prefs
    and binkd.conf

So, when i got it all right for BBSNet and it still is working perfectly, i should manage to add a second network and make it work as perfect as the
    first one, right? wrong :)

for some reason i can't find myself, i can not send out Netmails to Areafix
for that Network. I can prepare and save that message in the BBS, sure. But after magimail has exported that message, it will not send instantly (crash)
by Binkd and even the cronjob start of binkd does not take and send any
    message to the piNET Hub.

I don't get what is wrong there. Could someone be so kind to take a look at
my configs. i put those on pastebin (passwords removed) for you.

Any help/ideas what is wrong there would be much appreciated!

(these pastebins will be removed automatic after 2weeks)

    Best Regards,

PS: the tic processing was working fine already for an incoming new nodelist and infofile of piNET, so binkd is connecting to the piNET Hub just fine

btw, i now see that in the ftn folder a new folder pinet.13a has been created holding a clo file. But i have defined OUTBOUND pointing to ftn/out in magimail.prefs. Is it required to define the folders multiple times for each network?

Yes, you need a domain line for each network. I have fidonet and fsxnet and my default domain in zone one, so my doomain lines look like this..

    domain fidonet /usr/local/fido/outbound 1
    domain fsxnet /usr/local/fido/outbound 1

If you are in zone 2 you'll need to change the numbers at the end of the lines to 2.

    domain fidonet /usr/local/fido/outbound 1
    domain fsxnet /usr/local/fido/outbound 1

Just a quick addendum. The number at the end is your default (first used in your config I think) zone, so it might be something other than 1 or 2. If your first net was fsxnet then it would be 21.

ok, interesting. i thought the number at the end is the network and different for each domain line.
So if i have currently 75 (BBSNet) as default, every domain line has to have
75 at the end? strange, but if it is how it works, i gonna do it like that :) and if i later add fidonet to my networks and make that my default, i have to change the numbers at the end of the domain lines to the default zone number
    of my fidonet zone.

    Thanks for the hint,

ok, i already have a domain line for each network, but the number at the end was equal to the the network-zone of the respective network and not always
    the defined default zone number.

not sure if that was it. i gonna test it. actually i think it is something related to magimail as everything was working but the outbound folder used was pinet.13a instead of out.

I am using a 3D tosser so my outbound directories are all the same with something like .13a or for fsxnet .015 added to them.

If you are working with a 5D outbound it works differently. You can have different outbound directories for each net.

    domain fidonet /usr/local/fido/outbound 1
    domain fsxnet /usr/local/fido/fsxnet 21

When working with a 3D outbound you need to use the same outbound directory name along with the same number at the end of the domain line. Your outbounds will get the zone number in hex appended to them.

I'm not sure but I think MagiMail uses a 3D outbound.

ok, i 've had it like that
    domain bbsnet /path/ftn/out 75
    domain pinet /path/ftn/out 314

    now
    domain bbsnet /path/ftn/out 75
    domain pinet /path/ftn pinet 75

that creates an extra folder pinet.13a on new mail beside the out folder.
it is actually described here for multiple networks https://gitlab.com/magickabbs/magickabbs-documentation/-/blob/master/configurat ion/msgs/ftn/binkd.md

the only thing i would be interessted in now, is why the binkd does not send
it out immediately. magimail scan script starts when mail.out is touched by MagickaBBS and exports the message. But binkd should send it out immediately. Currently it is sending that Areafix Message when the binkd got started via cronjob every 10min only.
In magimail.prefs i have this line with the CRASH option added to it for that purpose. But its not doing it immediately.

NODE 314:314/0 "ZIP" "" AUTOADD PACKNETMAIL CRASH

Actually, with the tossers I've seen, you have to use the same number for all zones in binkd.conf, to make it work, so in the 5D example above, all the zone numbers would still be 1.

When working with a 3D outbound you need to use the same outbound directory name along with the same number at the end of the domain

I'm not sure but I think MagiMail uses a 3D outbound.

    I have to check.

Mystic seems to create outbound directories per net, but also has the .015 zone

in hex appended to the outbound. Is that a fully 5D outbound structure?

There can be other cases to like Blue White who needs to use the actaul zone number with binkleyterm along with squish.

If your getting .015 added to your outbound directory then you would
need to use the same default zone number.

The tossers I've used add the hex extension on all othernet directories. The only one without an extension is the default director of my primary AKA, which happens to be Fidonet, and corresponds to Fidonet Z3, so in all of my domain entries in binkd.conf, I have to use 3 as the default zone for all domains. That way, binkd looks for files and mail in the othernet.NNN, where NNN is the hex extension.

I always thought that a 5D outbound would need the actual zone number
and not get the .015 added to the outbound for that zone but I have
never had a fully 5D tosser to play with.

I'm not sure what tossers support full 5D. I know SBBSEcho, for example, can't handle the same zone in 2 different domains, which should be possible in a true 5D environment. That's because SBBSEcho actually maps zones to domains in its "5D" configuration. I don't know if Mystic'd mutil is a true 5D tosser, would have to create a dummy domain with a zone number that conflicts with something else that I have to test.

Mystic seems to create outbound directories per net, but also has the
.015 zone in hex appended to the outbound. Is that a fully 5D outbound structure?

I'm led to believe that BinkleyTerm behaves like binkd, and BT is supposed to be the "reference" 5D implementation.

There can be other cases to like Blue White who needs to use the actaul zone number with binkleyterm along with squish.

Interesting. I've never used Squish. Anyway, there seems to be different interpretations of 5D BSO, but at least binkd can cope with the permutations.

Technically, not fully 5D, because it's impossible for SBBSEcho to have multiple domains with the same zone number (which 5D is supposed to allow).
