Your Sep 19 setting did take effect. The display was what made it look ignored.
Message pointers are stored as message numbers, not dates. Setting pointers by date moves each sub's pointer to just before the first message posted on or after that date. In your two new groups, every message is newer than Sep 19, so the pointer went to "before the first message": every message there is new, which is what you asked for.
The pointer list, though, shows the date of the last message you've *read*. For a pointer before the first message, it was showing the first message's date (Sep 21). That is later than the date you entered, so it looked like your setting had been replaced. The group's "All" date prompt then pre-filled with that same Sep 21, which made it look worse.
This is now fixed in master (86398f6c97, thing-28-epic, 2026-09-29): a sub where nothing has been read shows "All" (all of its messages are new) instead of a date. The group "All" prompt defaults to the latest date among subs that have actually been read. Other subs still show the date of the last message before the date you set, which will be on or before it.
