It's like my brother...he turned 59 today, but after he
snubbed me a couple of weeks ago (and chewed me out) over the
birthday card I gave him, I didn't even bother.

    [snip]

"Every booty wanted you to have a happy birthday -- bun
appetit!!". He growled "that was uncalled for!!". I wanted to
tell him to "Get A Life!!".

Did he ever have a sense of humour?

Sounds like he might be a serious person all the time.

    August,

Did he ever have a sense of humour?

He probably does, but I don't think he appreciates "pun humor"
as I do. Yet, he hates Christmas now, because except for the
Walgreeens stores, and the Chinese restaurants, everything else
was closed that day. He prefers to go out to eat, drink beer,
and converse with his friends...and hates being home alone. He
has no hobbies at all, and he hates computers.

On the other hand, between the BBS, ham radio, and square dance
related stuff (website and publications), I have more than enough
to keep me busy at the computer at home alone. If I get to the
point where fatigue sets in, or (as has been the case lately),
with sinus issues (where I can't hold my eyes open), I just take
some medication, and go to sleep for awhile.

Besides, frequent naps prevent old age...especially if taken
    while driving. <G>

Is he older than you? Too bad about in him not having other
interests other than shopping and eating out. But perhaps with
"converse with his friends" he sounds like a conversationalist
and perhaps likes intellectual stimulation. I was going to
suggest that maybe he could find that in a good message board in
times when he is "stuck at home". But, since computers are out,
the typing to replace actual conversing probably wouldn't work
    very well.

My mom wouldn't warm up to using a computer at first. Being an accountant/bookkeeper, she did however appreciate the benefits of
organized data that a good computer program could produce. She
also loved to write letters, so an intro to WordPerfect turned
out to be perfect. She liked the instant ability to look up past
    letters and organize them.

Then, to improve her mouse-motor skills, I found a few games she
really liked. She typically enjoyed playing the real Scrabble, a
CDROM filled with a variety of word games worked well. Then the
introduction to InterBBS Scrabble turned out to be a lot of fun
    for her too.

Does your brother play chess with his intellectual friends? Maybe
an intro to computer chess could work.

If ever you get the chance, try to take a look at this tv series:

    "Canada's Worst Driver"

I just "discovered" the tv series this year (they're airing a
repeat of season 8 on my OTA analog tv feed), but both past
current episodes seem to be available on youtube.

It's funny and concerning that these people are actually allowed
    to drive on the roads.

He's 21 months younger than me. I saw him yesterday, and the
waittress showed a video they did for him on his birthday. They
had a mini basketball goal on his head, and folks were trying to
make the baskets. The fun was over, when one guy did a "slam dunk",
and the balls went everywhere. He said he got hit by so many of the
ping pong balls, it was pathetic.

I also heard a new term yesterday..."crop dusting". First, when folks
hear that term, it's a small plane flying low over fields and crops,
spraying insecticide, pesticide, etc., on them, to keep the bugs away.
Plus, that stuff has a horrible smell to it (you don't want to inhale
    a bunch of this stuff).

In this case, if one is "crop dusting", they've emitted a rather
nasty fart, and are bringing it with them across the room. But, the methane-sulphur stench is the indication that the bacteria in your gut
are doing their job to digest the food. I saw a sign that noted "If
you can smell the fart, you're too close". <G> Another one I liked was
on this BBQ restaurant..."I like my butt rubbed, and my pork pulled". <G>

Another individual had mentioned the term "spider barkings". I had
never heard that either, but the guy added "Beano takes care of that!!".
    The light came on. <G>

My mom wouldn't warm up to using a computer at first. Being an accountant/bookkeeper, she did however appreciate the benefits of organized data that a good computer program could produce. She

I still have a lot of stuff on there she got from the late Clive
Cussler. He was a worldwide famous adventure writer, on the New York
Times Best Seller List. He passed away 6 months after my Mom died.

Then, to improve her mouse-motor skills, I found a few games she
really liked. She typically enjoyed playing the real Scrabble, a

I use the BBS games to keep my mind sharp. The late Nancy Backus,
who passed away recently, could clean your clock in Scrabble. Sysop
Sean Dennis dedicated the Scrabble game on his BBS to her memory. Unfortunately, I've only had time to logon to do QWK Mail, with no
time or energy to play the games.

Does your brother play chess with his intellectual friends? Maybe
an intro to computer chess could work.

He never really cared for games.

    They aren't gory.
They are for the most part fender benders and others were everyone
survives. Mostly drivers doing stupid things.
I wouldn't care to watch gory ones with bloodied bodies laying all over

    Joe,

Once years ago I was at lunch with a friend who tipped his glass of
iced tea too soon and spilled some on himself and said "Oh, I just teed
    my pants".

Or as the late Red Skelton noted "Tinkling in your pants is like
friendship. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel its true warmth". <G>

That's as good as the one where Tom Mullica, playing Red Skelton, at a
show in Branson awhile back, discovered there were a bunch of nurses in
the audience for the show...he was ecstatic, like a kid on Christmas
    morning!!

He said to them "I'm so glad you're here!! I've been dying to ask this question". The hall gets dead quiet, and he asks "Have we had our bowel movement today??!!". <G>

The nurses were as red as tomatoes, and the entire room was roaring in raucous laughter. <BG>

Ya, DDS-tv is the one I like the best in this genre.

No gore. The nice thing is that you can see the lead up to the accident and it helps you recognize when someone's about
to do something stupid - and avoid getting caught up in someone else's stupid decision.

The best car crash videos are VERY educational.

We saw the same thing in Driver's Ed back in the day. But "scared straight" doesn't work when you don't understand how they got into that situation in
    the first place.

When I watch the car crash videos, I always ask myself "what would I have done to avoid this?" In some cases, there's nothing you can do (because it's the guy behind you texting that caused the problem). But in many cases, just slowing down, leaving more room and being more alert would have allowed me
    to simply avoid the accident.
