The Sapelo Island Expedition Group is pleased to announce that operators Ricky (K4JTT), Ian (NV4C), and Tim (WK4U) will activate special event station N4N from beautiful Sapelo Island, Georgia, October 8-11, 2026. The team hopes to work radio amateurs from all over the world from Sapelo Island this October. This operation commemorates the 16th anniversary of the group's first Sapelo Island activation during International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend in 2010. Amateur radio operators around the world are invited to work N4N as the team operates from one of Georgia's most unique barrier islands.
Operating Information
The team plans to be active on:
80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters
SSB, CW, FT8, and FT4
Equipment will include:
Elecraft K3
Yaesu FT-991
Flex 6300
Possibly Yaesu FT-857D
A variety of portable antennas optimized for island operations
Award Credit
Contacts with N4N will qualify for several popular amateur radio award programs, including:
Grid Square: EM91ij
Islands On The Air (IOTA): NA-058
US Islands Award Program (USI): GA007S
Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (ARLHS):
USA-738 – Sapelo Island
USA-1014 – Sapelo Island Range Front Lighthouse
Due to operating logistics and site limitations, this activation will not qualify as a Parks on the Air (POTA) operation.
Log Uploads
The expedition team intends to upload logs daily as internet connectivity from the island permits. Should connectivity be unavailable during the operation, all logs will be uploaded within ten (10) days following the conclusion of the expedition.
Logs will be available through:
Logbook of The World (LoTW)
Club Log
QRZ.com
Paper QSL cards will not be available for this expedition.
This special event expedition provides a wonderful opportunity for hams from around the world to work this rarely activated Georgia island for credit in multiple award programs. The team looks forward to getting as many hams as possible in the logs during our activation,” says Ian Kahn, one of the team members and two-time Georgia QSO Party champion in the single side-band category.
The Sapelo Island Expedition Group looks forward to another successful activation and wishes all participating amateur radio operators good luck in the pileups.
