I can say I am a beginner even though I have been playing guitar for
more than 60 years. The first epiphany I had was that the approach is
NOT the same but, I thought it would be a great tangent during the pandemic. In as much as you are focusing on rhythm and harmony, what an excellent approach to theory! I have to focus on the beat and stay away from melody. Technique is not the same if you stay away from using a
pick. I could say that guitar is more like singing and bass is more
like dancing! So far I am humbled by how much noise I make from the strings I do not intend to hear because I am not damping them properly.
I refused to ever play bass with a pick, so I didn't have to 'unlearn' anything. :-)
I play bass like I play 'rythem guitar' - that is, with runs and such
(big bluegrass background). I CAN keep a straight beat, and if the song
calls for it, sure, but I like to 'walk' a two step or western swing.
:-) Fun stuff!
... I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...
