    Hello Bj”rn,

a news server is not a BBS...

Oh, but yes it is! Here's where you can post your electronic news bulletins
nowadays -- only so much easier than with yesteryear's terminal/modem combo.

Yes, it is! Makes it so easy to post your very own electronic
news bulletins. Even for those with no prior experience.

no sir, it is not... not in the traditional sense...

i don't see it... you still have to understand the software, create an account some how, configure the software to use the account, pull a list of areas, decide which areas you want to read, pull those areas, finally you get to read and reply...

it is just as easy as reading via some web interface, too... except you only need an account and you don't consume your local drive space...

Synchronet and Mystic both can do FTN all by themselves and are actively supported.

Without a single program file downloaded and installed?

Nothing other than the Synchronet or Mystic BBS packages.

Amazing. Kudos if that is true.

Yes, things have progressed a long ways while you've been
    hibernating.

As opposed to do nothing at all, following the link in my origin.

While I was hibernating I was heavily involved with e.g. the JamNNTPd project that now gives every new fidonet explorer the opportunity to take part of our fidonet without even having to download and install a single package.

It's only the Bulletin Board System for sure, but the file areas http://eljaco.se/FILES/ and the online games are far better handled online. ANSI games are probably not something that'll attract today's generations...
