I am aware - All the echo's in Ben's name no doubt was taken over by him after he took over the elistmaint role to keep them alive but according to my systems
stats they are dead assuming their is no break uplink wise from Janis.

So I will not bother doing the same.

not to keep them alive but to keep them listed... remember, the echolist traditionally/historically doesn't list *live* echos... it simply lists echos...

the backbone will carry listed echos when the moderator requests such cartage... non-echolisted areas are not carried on the backbone but they may be
carried by backbone systems... the key is if they are listed in the backbone.na/.no files... the backbone uses the independent echolist for various
reasons... determining who the moderator of an area is is one of those reasons...

but according to my systems stats they are dead assuming their is
no break uplink wise from Janis.

they may be actually dead areas... if that's the case, they will be removed from the backbone at some point based on lack of traffic...

if their listing goes away, that will also trigger removal from the backbone at
some point based on lack of listing...

this is not automated and is done at random times... why? to thwart those that would game the system and try to take over an area moderated by someone else...
this has generally been seen when the two get into some sort of dispute about something...

So I will not bother doing the same.

personally speaking, i don't have a problem with that ;)

    Hi Mark,

As a matter of interest who is responsible to manually update the backbone?

rossC used to do it until he left fidonet... then ben took over the job along with managing the echolist... currently there is no one handling the task but i
suspect that i will be doing it... soon-ish...

    Hi Mark,

That would be good if that does happen in the near future as it is long overdue.

    Thanks.
