• Submission formats of .ECO files when taking over a echo

From Vincent Coen@2:250/1 to All on Mon May 4 17:22:31 2020
    Hello All!

Some appear to be having a problem of working out what MOD-UPD files to send when taking over from one of the moderators who have left fido or died.

Here I will show you an example based on one such echo that Bill was the moderator and this is spread over 3 ECO files but note that a password must be included of your choicing :

    NHL1.ECO
    TAG NHL
    SUBJ MOD-UPD
    LANG ENGLISH
    GROUP FIDO
    PASS YourNewPassword
TITL The National Hockey League Discussion Echo
DESC Serious discussion over events, players and teams of the
DESC National Hockey League. It may include the past, the present, and the
DESC future of the league. Heated debate is encouraged but NO FLAMING.
    MOD Bill McGarrity, 1:266/404, bill.mcgarrity{at}tequilamockingbir
    COMOD1 Dan Clough, 1:123/115, gamgees{at}gmail.com
    ORIG 1:123/115
    REST /REAL
    DIST Z1 Backbone
    FROM Bill McGarrity, 1:266/404

    NHL2.ECO
    TAG NHL
    SUBJ MOD-UPD

So the differences between the three files but first if I have sent you a ECO file remove the line starting UPDATED if present :

NHL1 has you added as COMOD1 but with the FROM and MOD as original moderator with your new password. You must have the original moderator shown for MOD and FROM. Otherwise it will be rejected.

NHL2 has you as MOD and FROM and ORIG changed if required.

NHL3 has the COMOD1 DELETE added to remove you as a comod as you are now the moderator.

All three files can be sent in at the same time but note that the filenames have a 1, 2 & 3 added and they will be processed in that order - Most important.

For all three files you could remove all :
    DESC
    TITL
    REST
DIST entries as no changes have been done, so the last one for example need only be :

    NHL3.ECO

    TAG NHL
    SUBJ MOD-UPD
    GROUP FIDO
    PASS FRODO78
    MOD Dan Clough, 1:123/115
    COMOD1 DELETE
    ORIG 1:123/115
    FROM Dan Clough, 1:123/115, gamgees{at}gmail.com

ORIG not needed if you have changed it in an earlier file.

    Hope the above helps,

    Vincent

So, basically, MOD and FROM should always match in each .ECO file.

    [eg.]
    NHL1.ECO
    MOD Bill McGarrity, 1:266/404, bill.mcgarrity{at}tequilamockingbir
    FROM Bill McGarrity, 1:266/404

    [eg.]
    NHL2.ECO
    MOD Dan Clough, 1:123/115
    FROM Dan Clough, 1:123/115, gamgees{at}gmail.com

    [eg.]
    NHL3.ECO
    MOD Dan Clough, 1:123/115
    FROM Dan Clough, 1:123/115, gamgees{at}gmail.com

    Hope the above helps,

I had a feeling that that's what was out of sync in the .ECO files.

The FROM is important on the 1st one as a COMOD1 entry is supplied so it is checked that a valid Mod/CoMod is in the FROM.

The 2nd the MOD is changed to the new MOD that also matches the COMOD1 entry and along with any other changes such as ORIG if needed and the 3rd one is removing the temporary COMOD1 entry.

It is important that a password is supplied for all three otherwise an en error
will be reported and like wise if the 1st one is not the original Mod as on record it will get rejected if the FROM entry is different.

All security checks have been covered here.
