I had meant to add this echo earlier, but things went sideways for me for a bit.

    Hi Alan, Charles,

I take it we still run DOS based systems here, even if just for legacy/"retro" purposes?

I don't anymore although my first BBS back in '95 was running DOS or DRDOS. I was running RA back then, it was awesome. :)

The closest I get to running DOS these days is running DOS doors under dosemu and FeeDOS.

I had one, but it gave out on me. I tend to push things and see if I can get things done on systems which aren't supposed to work. I end up frying something or the other.

OK, I have two DOS machines, both 486's. I also have an XT, which is half present. Dabbled with DOS assembler after not touching it for a while, made a small VGA star scrolling demo.

I think I have enough components to cobble together a machine, or most of one anyway. I should work on it to see what I still remember.

Odd. That's 4 times this message appeared in Telegram now.

I'm actually using one of them right now. The only real problem is mTCP's telnet doesn't support ZModem, and the DOS editor doesn't wrap lines
all that well. Don't know if its really worth it, as you can just run FreeDOS on a new machine, and run all the same software. The only thing you miss out on, is native hardware sound (and sometimes graphic) support for old DOS programs.

The point of having an old PC is really for the old sound card, video card and CRT monitor.
