• getting small <$1 unsolicited PayPal payments

From Aug@2:460/256 to All on Mon Jun 19 17:45:38 2023
    Hi All...

Anyone getting unsolicited "payments" or "coupons" in your PayPal accounts?

The first one was on Jun 10 for 4cents. Then another one today for 33cents. Different senders each time.

    Hi Flavio...

    I don't have a PayPal account...

That could be a good thing! Personally, I think it's a fine system, even if only to avoid high banking fees. But I don't see how these low <$1 payments can be a security issue, unless the payor is hoping that I respond via email and ask what's going on.

At the end of the day, it is only a nuisance.

Years ago when I first setup paypal to make payments they deposited two small amounts in my bank account. Once I confirmed the amounts, something like 6 cents and another for 8 cents I was able to make payments from my bank account.

I haven't used paypal for years but that was the only time I saw anything like that.

Someone suggested to me that they are phishing.. phishing for
my curiosity and contacting them to ask what's going on. Not
    going to do that!

I think I read somewhere that they are beginning to charge a
    fee for "inactive accounts".

You only need to worry when you see a - 33cents. I've had to close Paypal accounts because I was getting charged for orders I never made.

Sofar there is no -ve balance, just zero. I don't think a -ve
is even possible; when there is insufficient funds in the PP
account, they simply take money out of the linked bank account
or the linked credit card - but then that also assumes that YOU
actually triggered a perchase - there would be an electronic
trail to show that. How is it even possible for PP to allow
you reach a -ve 33 cents balance and be accused of making
orders you said were never initiated by you?
