Or at least not every day, the information in those messages hasn't changed in months...
BTW: What are "nets" anyway? ;-)

imagine you lived in alaska (or wherever might be fairly remote), and at a set
schedule everyone got on their radio to say hi and prove they're alive.. or
perhaps to pass along information, etc
then imagine it got somewhat cumbersome with the number of people involved, so
you had a "net control operator" that sort of guided the people checking in
along so they didn't just transmit on top of each other
i'd say that's sufficient to understand the concept. only mostly they just throw out their callsign ("check in"), say hi, perhaps answer some sort of question. (think: "what's your favorite dinner to make on a cold night?") and
then go about their lives.
i don't check in to those very often because it's BO-RING. much better talking
to the people who get on every day or so and actually chat

As a lurker, I actually prefer nets to most one-on-one QSOs. They tend
to spend a lot of time on the frequency, but really don't say that
much; One person will say something, then there's this long pause
before the otheer replies because they're also doing something else, so the attention isn't always there. And if both are doing this, it makes for a raher tedious listening experience.
My favorite nets are the themed variety, a specific purpose or topic
for getting together. I also like listening to contests; I like the rapid-fire exchanges. --- SBBSecho 3.31-Linux

There's a nightly one in Memphis that I will hit when I can -
it's a GREAT test of the equipment.
