• Trump Cancels Election

From Lee Lofaso@2:221/360 to All on Sun Mar 8 22:41:05 2020
    Hello Everybody,

Elections have been postponed or canceled before. It happened
in New Orleans, after Katrina, with the mayoral election being
    postponed. And also other places.

If the coronavirus spreads, as is widely expected, to the point
where it becomes unsafe or impractical to hold the presidential
election this coming November, will there even be an election?

What if President Trump is so far behind in the polls that he
has no chance of winning, but he decides to use the coronavirus
as an excuse to cancel the presidential election so that he can
remain in power for virtually as long as he wants? Can anybody
stop him from doing so? Just declare a state of emergency,
as the governor of California did, and crown himself king?

Nah. I think he prefers to be called "pResident" rather than
anything that would remind him of a guy whose real name was King.

    Well, let's see....

Trump is the incumbent and it's almost a done deal that he will win the Republican nomination. So you'd think most Republicans probably won't bother to vote in the Primary.

Compared to the Dems, who have a (supposedly) hotly contested race.

Yet Trump STILL has more people voting for him in the Primary than the Dems.

Only because Democrats and Independents are not allowed to vote
    in Republican primaries.

Depends on where you are at. I can vote either here in Georgia.

Yeah. Republican presidential primary in Georgia is open.
But with Trump as the only candidate, what does it matter?

With the coronavirus pandemic, it really would be better
for all primaries to be cancelled. As well as the conventions.
Just imagine the nightmare if all the politicians got sick
and died and there was nobody left to replace them ...

Is there a down side to that?
