• Creating Point Node For FidoNet

From Khronos@VERT/CWSHACK to All on Sat Oct 10 14:42:23 2026
What do I need to do to create a point node for my system?
I tried to add a node as 1:135/205.0 and the .0 was chopped off when creating this entry?
    What am I doing incorrect?

    Thanks,

From what I remember you need to set it up as a linked node in echoscfg and you can create a list of groups the point has access too. If .0 is removed then maybe .0 is not idea for a point number. try .1 ?

    Ah..

I think I know where I messed up.
I created the node and set the uplink group list as my fidonet group.
I do not think I should have done this.
I created an echolist called z1.na in my /sbbs/fido/echolists directory.
In the keys section do I specify z1.na or fidonet for access to all my fidonet areas?

.0 is not a "point node". 1:135/205.0 is basically the same thing as 1:135/205. Any number but 0 will work, although there may be an upper limit (4 digits maybe?).

I created my point node as .1 and I believe I may have the EchoMail flowing to it now.

that depends... is this point address to be another AKA for your system or is it to be another system for your/someone's personal use?

I tried to add a node as 1:135/205.0 and the .0 was chopped off when creating this entry? What am I doing incorrect?

1:135/205 and 1:135/205.0 are the same address... just like trailing zeros on calculators are implied and ignored, the same with FTN addresses, too...

so, with that in mind, the first point address of any FTN node is going to be x:y/z.1 and go up from there... they do not have to be in sequence... i have only one point on my main system and it is the one i'm writing this message from on a separate system with no BBS software in sight...

I was able to figure this part out after someone else had a different point number other than 0 as well.

    Thanks,
