If I use telnetdoor to connect to a gameserver running sbbs, the first time a user connects they are asked for a user name and location. After that first time everything works as expected. Also, the password can't be the same as
the user name. Is there sny way around this? I think sbbs and mystic
systems don't experience those issues. I am specifying the xtrn.code
    properly.

I'm not familiar with "telnetdoor". Do you not have the option of specifying the RLogin parameters (including the client-name, which Synchronet uses for the user password)?

I can only specify username, password and term type.

It's a mannsoft door to allow 32 bit BBSes without native telnet or rlogin support to do those features. EleBBS has telnet support, but it's not documented very well. Same with IRC. I use external doors for both. -YUsername -XPassword -Ztermtype are the options. As I said, the first time
I use this method to connect, it requires me to enter a user name and
location from the new user form. Every time after that, it works as
    designed.

Those prompts sound like the new user registration experience of Synchronet and is configurable by the sysop.

The user is created with the logged in username and password, but the new
user form still has to be filled out, asking for handle and location. After that is done, it works right every other time.

The user is created with the logged in username and password, but the new user form still has to be filled out, asking for handle and location. After that is done, it works right every other time.

And the sysop of the RLogin server (where the new user form resides) has control over that.
