Curious if anyone ever interacted with Garry Shandling. Apparently,
he'd been an amateur radio enthusiast from his teens until his death in 2016. I've been rewatching his work (It's Garry Shandling's Show and
The Larry Sanders Show, amongst other work like stand-up and hosting gigs), so I started looking into his life. That's where I learned of
his passion for radio. As far as I can tell, the last sign he used was KQ6KA and he used "Dave Waddell" as a pseudonym to anyone he didn't
know well enough to trust with his actual identity.
KQ6KA DAVE WADDELL, 271
9100 WILSHIRE BLVD SUITE 1000W Class: A 08/25/99
BEVERLY HILLS, CA, 90212 Prev: KD6OY
Expir: 08/25/09
Are you sure that Dave Waddell perhaps wasn't his real name and Gary Shandling was his "stage" name?
held the callsigns WA7BKG, KD6OY and KQ6KA. The latter he held with a pseudonym, Dave Waddell, to avoid undue attention when he operated. [46]

I'm sure I can look this up, but I'll ask anyway - what does it take to be able to register your lic with a pseudonymn? Is this a case of "the rules don't apply to everyone"?

I honestly have no clue, and was a bit shocked when I read that
myself. Tim Allen (Home Improvement, Last Man Standing, The Santa
Clause etc.) holds a Technician license under the callsign KK6OTD,
which is under his real name, Tim Dick.
I really can see how they might have allowed this. Even Senator Barry Goldwater operated and was licensed under his own name, and in the
country of Jordan King Heussien also operated under his own name. Funny thing about the King, if you did work him on the air and referred to
him as "your majesty" he became -very- offended! He was happy to remind those that while he is on the global airwaves he is an amateur radio operator and requests he be treated as everyone else.
Another famous and probably best looking ham operator was Farrah
Fawcett. It would have been "angelic" to have "worked" her... pun
intended <G>
... The older I get the tighter the lids are on jars!

Interesting. His QSL Card is a collectors item now.
Interesting. I didn't know she was a ham.
There was a website that listed some famous hams over the years, and^^^^
I put that info into a presentation I did at regional hamfest 2 years ago...here's what I had (some are no longer licensed, or Silent Keys). Credit for this goes to Ross Goodall, WD4NJV...and Billy Williams,

That's the side effect of the new prescription to help you open the container. <G>
Hello Daryl;
I would imagine a few QSL cards are. When you consider the average age
of a ham is 70 (fact!) there's probably more SKs than active ones...
and those who are still active most likely are taking some form of
daily medications.
Oh yes indeedy she was! If you ever wanted to know the definition of a pile-up... you should have caught a frequency she popped on <G>
These too. The rest I did not know about. Even if one doesn't use it, having the license is a good thing to have because you never do know
when it'll be needed.

Speaking of which... I have to make a run to get 2 refills :\

They mentioned that on the QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless
Association) Webinar this past Saturday...even pausing for a moment of silence for the SK's in the last year.
I trashed them out in the chat room after the meeting had ended, when one ham had offered to buy VE6AFO, president of QCWA, a beer. I typed
in "I'll take a diet green tea citrus...you can hold my beer" (hi hi).
I was told this morning on a D-Star Net that "in the south, you're also supposed to say 'Watch This!!'" after saying that. I doubt it applies
to Mug, Barq's, Dad's, Hires, or A&W. Man, now I want a root beer
float. <G>
Do you remember her callsign?? I know she is a Silent Key now (anal cancer, from what I understand).
This is true. I'm not on the air as much as I used to be. Vision problems of late (mainly corneal abrasions) have made it hard to be at
the computer for long periods of time...either for nets, or getting the BBS into the cloud. If that wasn't enough, degenerative disk disease in
my spine makes it difficult to sit at the computer, or to stand in one spot, for long periods of time.
There's been sooo many it's unreal. Of course the cause is all COVID -
Mug and A&W are my two favs :)
Now I can't recall what it was. If you can find her obit online I think
it may mention what it was. That was the last time I saw it listed.
I'm usually not around for very long saturday - monday at least.
Yesterday I slept for 24 hours with the exception of committing body function needs... eat and recycle what was consumed <G> Muscle relaxer meds knock me completely out! Arthritis build up in my C5 causing my
left side to experience the joys of pinched nerves.
